-How do they work?
NormaTec utilises a patented technology that massages with pneumatic compression to enhance circulation and reduce soreness. NormaTec employs three forms of biomimicry to expedite recovery:
- Pulsing—dynamic compression mobilises fluid
- Gradient Hold—prevents fluid backflow
- Distal Release—allows normal circulation
The NormaTec Pulse massage pattern is patented and is clinically proven to:
- increases circulation
- reduces pain and soreness
- rejuvenates muscles
- accelerates athlete recovery
-When were Compression Boots developed?
Compression boots were developed in 1998 by a physician with a doctorate in engineering named Laura Jacobs. Dr. Jacobs created the NormaTec system of compression massage to non-invasively treat circulation related disorders like lymphedema and venous insufficiency. She developed a pattern which replicated the muscle pump of the legs, the one-way valves of the venous system, and peristalsis (cyclical waves of compression), to mobilise fluid and speed recovery. Her son, Gilad Jacobs realised that this NormaTec system could benefit athletes to aid their recovery post exercise. He continued to further develop the NormaTec system and created the NormaTec Sports device.
-How do I put them on?
You slide on the boots while sitting down, like a pair of pants. You can put them on while open or zipped up, but make sure they are fully zipped up before you start your session. The zipper should be on the top and be sure the boots are not bunched under your hamstrings. Try to have your heel at the end of the boot and have the attachment come up to the top of your thigh. Once you are comfortably in the legs, connect to the hose and start your session.
-What do I wear while in the Compression Boots?
You can wear any comfortable pants or shorts. Make sure your pockets are empty and there are no bunches of fabric that might be uncomfortable during your session.
-How long should I leave them on for?
Warm-Up Pre Exercise: 10-20 minutes with a low-moderate intensity.
Recovery Post Exercise: 20-60 minutes with a moderate-high intensity.
-Are there any reasons I shouldn’t use Compression Boots?
The risks and benefits of using the NormaTec Recovery System are the same as having a massage. If it feels uncomfortable, reduce the intensity or stop the session.
