Meet the Physio
Rena Buckley is a chartered physiotherapist and a member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists. She has over 10 years experience working with people in private practice. Rena graduated with a BSc in Physiotherapy and Performance Science (Hons) from University College Dublin in 2009. She returned to University College Dublin and completed a MSc in Sports Physiotherapy in 2017. Her thesis ‘The incidence of injury in elite camogie, an in-season prospective study’ was published by BMJ Open in 2018. Rena has worked extensively with sports teams locally over the past few years, developing strong working relationships with GAA and rugby teams. She is the club physiotherapist for Naomh Abán, Clondrohid and Uibh Laoire GAA teams. Rena plays football with Donoughmore and camogie with Inniscarra. She captained the Cork Senior Camogie team to All-Ireland victory in 2017 and the Cork Ladies Football team to All-Ireland victory in 2012. She has won 11 Senior All-Ireland Football medals and 7 Senior All-Ireland Camogie medals. In 2015 she was awarded with a UCD Alumni award by the UCD School of Physiotherapy. She was a nominee for the RTÉ Sports Person on the Year in 2015 and 2017. She was the joint winner with teammate Briege Corkery of the Irish Times Sportswoman of the Year in 2016. In 2019 she was recognised by UCC with an Honourary Degree of Doctor of Arts.
